Packaging Material Selection:
Inner Layer Anti-Short-Circuit Material: All battery electrodes must be insulated, battery terminals must use anti-short-circuit caps, and cells must be separated by separators. Fireproof ceramic fiber inner bags with a grammage of ≥80g/m² may also be used to prevent safety issues caused by battery short circuits.
Middle Layer Fireproof Buffer Material: The buffer layer uses EPE pearl cotton (PE), ≥5cm thick, to absorb impact during transportation, protect batteries from collision damage, and provide a certain degree of fire protection.
Outer Layer Anti-Impact Structure: The outer box must meet the 1A2/Y1.4/S standard and possess sufficient strength and rigidity to protect the batteries from external pressure and collision during transportation. Individual lithium batteries shipped individually are typically required to be packaged in UN-certified “dangerous goods packaging,” which is puncture-resistant, leak-proof, and heat-resistant.
Packaging Practices:
Individual Packaging: Each battery or battery pack must be individually packaged. Insulating tape, plastic bags, and other materials may be used to prevent contact and short circuits between cells.
Shockproof Packaging: Batteries must be fully wrapped with foam, bubble wrap, or other materials to prevent movement within the packaging and protect against shock and vibration during transport.
Box-in-Box Packaging: Batteries must be packaged in multiple layers, a box-in-box structure, with both inner and outer boxes labeled with aviation-compliant battery labels. The weight of each individual package must not exceed 10kg to facilitate handling and comply with transportation regulations.
Labeling and Identification:
Dangerous Goods Labeling: The packaging must be affixed with a Class 9 dangerous goods label, typically 100mm x 100mm, to alert operators that the cargo is dangerous goods.
UN Number Marking: The packaging should be marked with the UN number, such as UN3480 (lithium ion batteries) or UN3090 (lithium metal batteries), to accurately identify the cargo type.
Proper Shipping Name Marking: The packaging should be marked with the correct proper shipping name, such as “Lithium ion batteries, UN3480,” to clearly indicate the nature of the cargo to the operator.

Battery Condition Check: Ensure that lithium batteries are intact, free of damage or defects, and their charge level should not exceed 30%. Damaged, recalled, or suspected defective lithium batteries must be packaged separately and labeled with warning information to avoid mixing with other cargo.
Document Preparation Assistance: Assist shippers in preparing relevant documents, such as dangerous goods declarations, safety data sheets (SDSs), and UN38.3 test reports, ensuring they are complete and accurate to meet transportation and customs clearance requirements.
Special Situation Handling: For lithium batteries installed in equipment, ensure the equipment is securely fastened to prevent loosening during transportation and that the equipment is turned off to prevent accidental activation. If batteries are mixed with devices, relevant packaging regulations must be followed. For example, the device must be secured to prevent the battery from moving inside the package, the packaging must prevent the battery from accidentally activating during transport, and the outer packaging must be waterproof.
