“Arrival at port” is a key term in international logistics transportation. It refers to the arrival of goods at the designated port (sea arrival) or airport (air arrival, also referred to as “arrival” in some cases) in the destination country via sea or air transport, completing the cross-border trunk line transportation, but not yet completing subsequent processes such as customs clearance and pickup.
Simply put, the goods have “arrived at the port/airport terminal in the destination country” but have not yet reached the recipient, and are in the “pending at the destination port” status.
Additional explanation:
Arrival does not equal delivery: Arrival merely means that the goods have arrived at the destination port/airport. Afterwards, they must undergo import customs clearance (declaration to the destination country’s customs, submission of documents, payment of customs duties, etc.) and pickup (removal of goods from the port/airport warehouse). If there is subsequent transportation (such as transportation from the port to the recipient’s city), inland delivery is also required for final delivery.
“Arrival” for Different Modes of Transport:
In sea freight, “arrival” specifically refers to the arrival of goods at the port of destination, where the shipping company unloads the goods into the designated warehouse at the port.
In air freight, arrival at the destination airport is often referred to as “arrival” (strictly speaking, “arrival at the airport”), where the goods are temporarily stored in the customs-controlled warehouse at the airport.
Impact on Subsequent Processes: After goods arrive at the port, if customs clearance goes smoothly and all documents are complete, they can typically be cleared and collected within 1-3 days. If customs clearance encounters obstacles (such as missing documents or required inspection), the goods may be detained at the port/airport, extending the overall delivery time.
