How is the international air freight fuel surcharge calculated? How often is it adjusted?

The international air freight fuel surcharge is typically calculated by multiplying the freight charge by the fuel surcharge rate. For example, if the freight charge is 100 yuan and the fuel surcharge rate is 33%, the fuel surcharge is 100 x 33% = 33 yuan.

The frequency of fuel surcharge adjustments varies between airlines and logistics service providers:

UPS: UPS’s fuel surcharge is adjusted weekly, with the changes taking effect on Mondays. The surcharge is based on the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) jet fuel price published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) two weeks prior to the adjustment, rounded to the nearest cent.

SF Express: SF Express’s fuel surcharge is updated monthly, with the monthly rate effective on the 1st of each month. The monthly surcharge is based on the USGC jet fuel price per gallon published by the U.S. Department of Energy for the previous two months.

DHL: DHL’s fuel surcharges are typically adjusted monthly based on real-time fluctuations in the international oil market.

FedEx: FedEx’s fuel surcharges are also updated weekly.
