Whether wooden packaging for international express delivery requires fumigation depends on the material used and the requirements of the destination country.
If wooden packaging is made of raw wood, fumigation is generally required. However, packaging made of man-made boards such as plywood, particleboard, and fiberboard, or wooden boxes constructed entirely of thin boards less than 6mm thick, generally do not require fumigation.
In this article, Weefreight will share some countries and regions with stricter requirements for wooden packaging fumigation:
North America: The United States and Canada require that raw wood packaging materials be fumigated and affixed with the IPPC mark. Official fumigation certificates must also be provided.
Oceania: Australia and New Zealand have strict regulations for unprocessed logs or raw wood packaging. Fumigation must be carried out in the country of origin and a recognized fumigation certificate must be presented. Failure to do so may result in fines or the goods may be returned to the country of origin.
In Asia, Japan and South Korea have stricter quarantine requirements for wooden packaging, typically requiring fumigation and the affixing of the IPPC mark.
The 27 EU countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Italy, have strict restrictions on the import of pine-based wooden packaging. A fumigation certificate must be presented upon pickup.
